Colonial Williamsburg

We headed to Colonial Williamsburg because it opened Sunday to the public after being closed for months and Summer tickets were inexpensive because not everything in the town was open like usual. Hotels were cheap and we were the only ones at our Hampton Inn! The weather forecast kept changing after we booked our 2 night trip and the rain came! We made a pit stop at Walmart to get umbrellas and rain panchos and headed to the town. It poured for the first couple hours and little boys stomped in every rain puddle they could and refused to wear any rain gear. They were pretty drenched, especially Griffin by the end of the first hour. Our first stop was the Governor's Mansion. Because of Covid-19, only the first floor was open to tour, but we enjoyed 10 minutes of dry. We had to wear masks in any building we were in, but we managed just fine. The rain finally let up after lunch and we made it to the weaver, the magazine to see some weapons, and to the Blacksmith. We did a little tour of the Capitol Building and learned about the history of the several times it was burned to the ground. Our final stop in Colonial Williamsburg was the Art Museum. The kids were bored and sick of walking by then, so we headed back on the shuttle bus to the car. We ate a bunch of candy for dinner from the local candy shop and had burgers for dessert. To end our trip, we made a pit stop at Great Falls Park in Virginia to see the waterfalls. Even if our kids only remember the rain or candy, it was still well worth the trip!
